Hi, I’m Jean!
I’m a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and the owner of Root to Bloom Nutrition Therapy.
I’m a second-generation Taiwanese-American and former competitive athlete who knows firsthand how perfectionism, performance pressure, and diet culture can disconnect us from our bodies.
I identify as queer and neurodivergent—living with OCD, ADHD, and dysautonomia—experiences that deeply inform my relationship with myself and my compassion for my work.
I believe that health is rooted in connection: to self, to community, and to the inherent wisdom of our bodies and nature.
My Story
Raised biculturally and in the high-pressure world of competitive athletics, I internalized values like performance, obedience, and perfection as tools for survival. So when I began studying to become a dietitian, I projected those beliefs onto health, convinced that “perfect” eating and movement were the keys to success and self-worth. Instead, I found myself trapped in cycles of achievement-based validation and frustration when my body couldn’t keep up. It wasn’t until I began listening to my body’s actual needs—rather than external ideals—that healing began. As I unraveled my understanding of health and the systems I had relied on for safety, I began to unmask, slow down, and learn that true well-being is rooted not in control, but in abundance, connection, and trust. Today, I’m still on that journey, unlearning what I was taught about pleasure, success, and embodiment, and relearning to connect with myself in deeper, more life-giving ways. My hope is that my personal work allows me to meet you with the same depth and compassion I continue to grow for myself.
Professional Bio
Jean Liu, MS, RDN, LDN/CDN
Jean (she/her/她) is a Taiwanese-American Registered Dietitian Nutritionist based in LA specializing in the treatment of eating disorders and body image healing, teaching body liberation through an Intuitive Eating and Health At Every Size (HAESⓇ) framework. Her mission is to help people heal their relationship with food and body so they can embody their wholeness and unlock the freedom to pursue the life they want and deserve.
Jean’s work addresses the impact that systems of oppression and generational trauma have on food and body perspectives, providing a trauma-informed and inclusive approach for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent communities. Her identities and lived/living experiences with OCD and disordered eating as an athlete speak to her passion for her work and clients. With 8 years of experience, Jean integrates clinical expertise with relational care to create a compassionate space where clients can explore their needs, deepen self-understanding, and move toward acceptance.
Jean began studying the treatment of eating disorders in 2017 while working as a diet tech at a treatment center in Los Angeles, CA. She later moved to Boston, MA, to pursue her training as a dietitian at Simmons University, one of only two schools in the U.S. offering specialized education and training in eating disorders. Since graduating and becoming a dietitian in 2020, she has worked in outpatient eating disorder care, with a focus on supporting communities that are often underrepresented or overlooked in traditional treatment settings.
