  • “Working with Jean on my relationship to food, diet, and exercise has been a truly life-changing experience. Before my work with Jean, I spent many hours a day meticulously planning my meals down to the calorie, dividing foods into "good" and "bad," and exercising as a form of punishment instead of as a form of positive movement for my body. I was deeply unhappy and engaging in negative self talk. I felt very desperate for a change, and feel that I found this practice at the perfect time!

Through my work with Jean, I learned an incredible amount about gentle nutrition, mindful movement, and the pervasiveness of diet culture in our lives. She helped me reframe negative thoughts, deeply consider the root of my anxieties around weight gain, and gain peace with my body. My life has so tremendously improved from this work - I'm cooking and eating the way that I want and that makes me feel good, I feel safe around foods I used to fear, and I'm moving my body because I want to, not because I'm sticking to a strict exercise schedule. I feel like a whole person, and though nothing is ever perfect, I feel so much happier than I was before we started working.

Jean was always patient with my questions, and always made me feel comfortable talking about my insecurities and my past mistakes with diet culture. She's extremely knowledgeable about gentle nutrition, and would bring in helpful scientific data to back up her claims. I thought that since I'd never been diagnosed with an eating disorder, my problems with diet culture would not rise to the level of needing help. Jean never made me feel less than, and took my concerns seriously even though I had never been diagnosed. I can't say enough good things - going to these sessions changed my life.”

  • “I started seeing Jean right as I was beginning to unpack my relationship with movement. Given all that I had accomplished with intuitive eating, I incorrectly assumed restoring a positive relationship with exercise would be “easier”. Without Jean I never would have come as far as I am today. She was able to listen unjudgementally and peel back the layers I didn’t even know were holding me back. Despite some heavy topics, Jean cultivated such a positive and safe space that I easily could have talked to her all day. I learned so much in our sessions but most of all, I felt seen and heard - and this was the turning point in my recovery.”

  • “[Jean] has changed my life and my outlook on food, my body, and dieting. I work with Jean, who is the most compassionate, well informed, adaptable, and kind practitioner, and her constant willingness to adapt our sessions to something that's helpful to me is one of the first times I've ever felt safe & understood by anyone in the medical, diet, or fitness field. Working with her has been an incredibly healing experience for me on multiple levels.
When I first came to [Jean], it was originally to lose weight. I started to learn about intuitive eating in my sessions with Jean, and I was able to begin to decipher and debunk the health and wellness conversations I've been steeped in as a 90's baby.
Instead of being given a rigid and dismal meal plan where I turn my brain off and follow the rules, Jean worked with me to help me understand the basics of nutrition, and how to understand my body so I could start making informed decisions for myself. Through our work, I discovered that I actually have chronic gastro issues that had never been picked up by a doctor before.
As we worked through the intuitive eating framework, one difficulty I experienced was dealing with the freedom it gives you. I have ADHD, which makes consistency (and endless flexibility) difficult for me as a person, and through our work Jean consistently adapted the intuitive eating model until it worked for me, as someone who needs structure, but also wants to live in a place of food freedom.
I could honestly talk for hours to anyone about my experience there, but I want to say that if you are looking for people who genuinely care, who will help you make sense of the health fads and crazes, and help you find a more integrated, mediated relationship with your own body, then [Root to Bloom] is the place to be.”
